2022: Texas Scramble (28.12.)

                                     Group Texas Scramble 28.12.22

Please find the results of last Wednesday Texas Scramble:

The last society playing day of the year was with a small amount of members playing but having a lot of fun. The weather was nice.

We only had 2 nearest to the Pin and this was for Santi on hole 8 and for EDI on hole 14. The tees where soo far behind that we were lucky to have someone on the green!

Then on the results we had the runner up team:Jan & Tony with a net score of 71.

Winning team for the day was John and Robert with a very good net score of 67. The putting skills of John was above average 👏

Stan offered us all a cava to drink on the next year. Thanks Stan!

Below some foto's of the winners and the players from this game.

Rest me only to wish everyone a healthy and super year end and 2023. May we see each other many time in the next year. 👍

Robert

2022: Team Game (Pairs better ball) (16.11.)

Venue:  Bonalba Golf & Spa

This Wednesday our Captain arranged a team competition.  He called it “Pairs Better Ball Bogie”.  On each hole, the better net score of the pair was recorded with +1 if they beat the course, with 0 if the score was equal and -1 if the net score was worse than the course.  The winner would be the pair with the most birdies against bogies.

There was a total of 25 members and 1 guest and, although Pascale and her guest came in with a very good score, the guest could not take part in the Society competition.

Our congratulations go to the winning and runner-up teams for their excellent results.

Ignace and Jan

One of the teams seemed to have had a bit of a problem finding their ball on the 13th hole, but thanks to “speedy Gonzales” there was not much of a hold-up.

There were prizes for the 4 overall winners and for the two best pairs of the day, as well as the usual nearest the pins.  The overall winners did not get a bottle of wine as usual, but instead received pictures hand painted by our Captain’s wife Lief Heyens, which was a wonderful idea for a different prize.

Many congratulations to all the fox hunting winners, and a special mention of John Garnett who was the outstanding overall winner.

2022: Texas Scramble (13.7.)

Venue:  Bonalba Golf & Spa

Today we played Texas Scramble.  The final number of players, after some late cancellations, was 17, which gave us 4 three-ball teams and one four-ball team.  As the course was not too busy, the four-ball team started on the 10th tee, therefore reducing the overall waiting time for the presentation.

The four-ball team had to make 4 drives each and the three-ball team 5 drives each.

The scores between the teams were very close, making it difficult for Richard and Jan to work out manually who the winners were.  Unfortunately, their results did not quite match the results entered later into Master Scoreboard.  The four-ball team of Michel, Ernst, Santi and Pascale were awarded second place, when actually they came third.

After the presentation, we were treated to tapas and a drink by Edi Rogers to celebrate his birthday.  Edi was not able to stay, so we made a video and sent it to him to wish him Happy Birthday and hope he will have a speedy recovery from his knee operation and return to golf soon.

The summary of today’s competition is as follows:

Nearest the pin:

Hole 4            Marcel Barink

Hole 8            Richard Davis

Hole 11          Robert Heyens

Hole 14          Lief Heyens

There were 2 twos today, from Chris van Bemmelen on hole 4 and Brian Hines on hole 11.

The correct placing of the Texas Scramble was as follows:

1st place with 63.7 off hcp 10.3 – Richard Davis, Jan Boultbee, Chris van Bemmelen

2nd place with 63.8 off hcp 11.2 – Eddy Fagg, Tony Dewavwrin, Doris Shearman-Earp

3rd place with 64.4 off hcp 8.6 – Michel Le Borgne, Santi Hung, Pascale Leroux, Ernst Stecher

4th place with 64.5 off hcp 8.5 – Helmut Treiber, John Garnett, Brian Hines

5th place with 64.8 off hcp 12.2 – Marcel Barink, Robert Heyens, Lief Heyens

2022: Fox Hunt (27.4.)

Some of the fox hunters had gone into hiding

Venue: Golf & Spa, Bonalba

Today we played our second round of the two-player team game “Fox Hunting”, where the Foxes are always calculated at 0 and the teams try to play better than the Foxes.

In this round the Foxes were Marcel Barink and Jan Boultbee, which were selected at random.

The scoring had been amended from the first game.  Now only the best score of the pair is recorded.

The updated standing of games is on the right of this blog.

We had a good turn-out of 27 members and two guests. Although the weather forecast was for a lot of rain, everybody but one turned up on the day.  The Captain told us that he was up all night to pray for dry weather.  His prayers must have been heard, as it kept dry for almost the whole round.

Next week we will compete for the May Medal, with a lunch after the game.

Please look out on the blog for details of the lunch.

The summary of the competition was as follows:

Nearest the pin:

Hole 11            Jan Boultbee

Hole 14            Jan Boultbee

There were no twos today.

Everyone is a winner!

Venue:  Bonalba Golf & Spa, 13.4.22

This Wednesday we played the first of two Ryder Cup style competitions.   The two teams were the “Pinks” and the “Blues” competing in Doubles Match Play, where the better score of the pair counted to go up, down or all square against the other pair.  Points awarded were 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.

The weather forecast had been for a lot of rain but we were somewhat lucky that, after quite a sunny morning, the rain only arrived towards the end of our rounds.

22 members and 3 guests took part and the final outcome of the competition was an incredible total draw, both in points and in holes won.  This meant that the two Captains of the day, Greta and Doris, were faced with the conundrum of how to award the prizes,  as there were not enough bottles for all the players.  So it was decided that we had to make a draw for the mini bottles of cava.  Sorry for the players who were left out.

To make the day even more enjoyable, Heather and Hazel provided us with some delicious home-made food at half-way house which was greatly appreciated.

The summary of today’s competition is as follows:

In view of the increased prizes for the main competition, there were no nearest the pins prizes.

We had two very close matches.  The match between Ernst and Doris against Robert and Jean-Claude was decided on the 18 hole.

However, the most exciting match seemed to have been between Ana and Juud, one of our guests against against Richard and Bob.  After having been 5 up at one stage, Richard and Bob managed to pull back and achieve a draw.

The results were:

Blue                            Pink                            Points Blue    Points Pink

Edi R                          Greta                                                        2

Tony/Mike (G)            Chris/no show                   2

Brian/Trish                  Klaudia/Lief                      2
