Venue: Alicante
Golf, 27 May 2015
Today we were at Alicante Golf for the Away Day competition which
qualified for the Bill Williams Away Day Shield. As the restaurant in the Golf Club was closed,
28 members and 2 guests assembled at the Cafeteria Simone in the square next to
the Golf Club for coffee and tostada before the game. Our Captain had arranged for us to tee off on
tees 1 and 10 to shorten waiting time after golf as there was a meal afterwards.
Although the greens were quite slow and some of us found them difficult, the
overall condition of the course and the pleasant weather conditions must have
suited many of us as there were a good number of excellent scores. Alicante
Golf has 6 par 3’s, so we had more than the usual nearest to the pin prizes. Bad luck to Ray who was a mere 2” away from beating
Richard on hole 15.
This day was not just about golf but the social side of our Society took
an important part as it was a day of sadness but also of joy for some of our members. After the game, our Captain Angel had invited
us all to a lunch at the Wok 2 San Juan in memory of his beloved wife Mila who
passed away a year ago. Thank you,
Angel, for your great generosity. We all
appreciated it and hope that being with your friends and remembering your wonderful wife helped to bring some
comfort to what will have been a very difficult day for you.
There was also a joyous part, as after the prize giving Luc Verhaegen and
Michael Davison announced that they were celebrating their wedding anniversaries.
Congratulations to Luc and Marleen and Michael and Heather!
