2018: Away Day Vistabella Golf (17.1.)

Some of the happy winners
Venue: Vistabella Golf, 17 January 2018

We had a healthy turn-out of 33 members and 4 guests for this, the last competition of the 2017 Bill Williams Away Day Shield.  Our Captain chose Vistabella, a golf course near Torrevieja.  It had recently been extended from 11 holes to a full 18 hole course. This was probably the reason why some of us using GPS golf watches were a little confused as the holes shown on the watches did not match up with the actual holes.
The Captain had asked us to arrive early as he had arranged for us to have breakfast before the start of the competition.  The coffee and croissant and bacon sandwiches were very much appreciated.

The course has a much lower slope than Bonalba and the position of the red tees made it a relatively short course for the ladies. It was good to see that some of the ladies were able to take full advantage of this, taking 5 of the first 6 places. There were only 2 points difference between the 2nd and 6th place and Jan narrowly missed out on a prize of the main competition but still managed to bag two special prizes for longest drive ladies and a nearest the pin.  A toast to the Ladies!
Mr. and Mrs. Tarabula
However our special congratulations go to the man of the moment, Stan, who was the overall winner with an excellent 37 points and with 8 points well ahead of the next best male player. In fact, it was a family affair, with Stan and his wife Christiane coming first and second.

It was good to see Rob back who made his presence felt on hole 2, the first of the par threes.

Summarising the results as follows:
The guest prize was won by Maurice Buol with a very good score of 33 points.

Longest drive men hcp <20: Jim Hurley

Longest drive ladies:     Jan Boultbee

Hole 2      Rob Ritchie
Hole 7      John Garnett

Hole 15    Jan Boultbee

There was one two, from Greta Biersteker on hole 15. She was awarded the customary golf ball.
