2018: Indiv. Stableford (21.2.)

Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 21 February 2018

This Wednesday we played an Individual Stableford competition.  The round also qualified for the Campbell Lamont League.  We had 34 members and two guests playing. Tom won the guest’s bottle of wine, but this stayed in the family as he was competing against his wife.

It was spitting with rain as we started our rounds but luckily it soon stopped and the day turned out to be cloudy but quite pleasant.  The leaders came in with some impressive scoring. 36 points was only good enough for 5th place.  Brian Wakely was pondering “if only I had scored on the last hole ….”, a thought known by many of us golfers.  However, Greta did score on the last hole and with that pipped Brian to the post.

In addition to the normal prizes, John and Jan awarded their “Hidden Holes” prize which goes to a player who is not in the normal prizes.  They decided to award the best total score of holes 7 to 11.  Chris was the winner with a very good 13 points, helped by scoring 4 points on hole 7, the hardest hole on the course.

Summarising the results as follows:
John and Jan’s Hidden Holes :  Chris van Bemmelen with 13 points.

Nearest the pin:
Hole 4      Santi Hung
Hole 8      Guy Letort, back to back
Hole 11    John Garnett
Hole 14    Helmut Treiber

There were 2 twos today on hole 11, not only by NP winner John but also from David Payne. Both were awarded the customary golf ball.

The main competition results were:
5th place with 36 points off 28 hcp – Peter Corbett
4th place with 37 points off 13 hcp – John Garnett, back to back
3rd place with 37 points off 20 hcp – Jacky Bernois, beating John on the back 9
2nd place with 38 points off 19 hcp – Brian Wakely
1st place with 38 points off 10 hcp – Greta Biersteker, beating Brian on the back 9
