Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa
This Wednesday we celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, a yearly competition sponsored very generously by our Irish friends, Jim and Kate Hurley.
As always, it was a fun day enjoyed by 35 members and 6 guests. The format was a non-qualifying Individual Stableford. There were lots of prizes. The main competition counted for members only, but the other prizes were open to everyone.
Playing his first game as a member was Pascal Guy, who is also the President of the French-European Amigos Golf Society. We hope, he will have many enjoyable games in our Society, starting with today’s win.
The weather played its part to making it a very enjoyable round of golf. Luckily, the recent strong winds had finally changed into a light brise.
After golf, 47 members and guests attended an Irish themed lunch in the Club restaurant, during which the prizes were presented.
For the main course, we enjoyed a tasty Irish Stew or Fish and Chips and finished, for those who wanted it, with an Irish Coffee, also generally sponsored by Jim and Kate.
The Irish music during lunch, later encouraged some members to try out Irish dancing, expertly taught by Kate. And, as on many previous occasions, we persuaded our resident singer, Graham, to give us his rendition of “Danny Boy” and encouraged us to all join in.
We were delighted to welcome to the lunch Keith and Pauline Preston, two of the founder members of our Society. Keith, now in his nineties and still going strong, had only recently stopped playing golf.
