2016: Monthly Medal (1.6.)

Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 1st June 2016

Today we played the June Medal.  According to the Provisional Calendar, we should have played on an Away-Day at Alicante Golf but due to the change in hollow tining at Bonalba, we will now have our Away-Day at Alicante Golf next Wednesday, 8th June.

We had 41 members and 2 guests signing in for today’s competition and, like last week, it was possible for 3 flights to start from tee 10 which helped with the overall waiting time until prize giving. And again, the early summer weather made play very pleasant and produced some very good scores.  Places 5, 6, 7 and 8 all posted net 74 but as there are only 5 prizes given, Nino Andres Aloras, John Webber and Chris van Bemmelen missed out on a prize as Pierre had the best back 9 and therefore came 5th. Nino, however, had the lowest gross score with 81 and with his name appearing on each of the nearest-the-pin flags, he in the end claimed the prize on hole 14.
Congratulations to Angel, our winner today. He had an excellent score of net 69. It seems that his lessons have well and truly paid off.

Before the prize giving, Keith Preston told the members that he would like to organise a musical evening including dinner at the end of September for about €25 based on 30-35 people attending. The music provided would be from the very popular duo “Intermezzo” who sing operatic and songs from musicals. There was sufficient support from members for Keith to continue with the project.

And finally, news on the goslings on hole 18. Under the fierce protection of mother and father goose, they have been growing steadily and are now nearly as big as their parents and grazing happily on the banks of the pond giving some of us a time to reflect this idyllic picture before attempting the final drive over the water ……

Summarising the results:

Tony Dewavrin, a former member playing this year as a guest, won the guest prize with 39 Stableford points.
