2018: Monthly Medal (7.3.)

Today's worthy winners
35 members presented themselves for the monthly medal today and found the windy conditions somewhat challenging. It was no surprise, then, that the overall scoring, though not by any means poor, was not quite as good as usual. Very well done to those who finished at the top of the results board in this testing weather. Mention, too, should be made of the lowest overall gross score by Nino Andres Alores who carded a fine 86 - very well done. And how nice to see one of our most recent members  - Heidi Dewavrin - making her mark immediately by carrying off the winner's medal. Congratulations to her, and to the other 4 in the winners' frame, all of whom made a net 77 and could be separated only on countback.

A surprise was waiting for the gentlemen upon their arrival in the presentation room when the captain announced the Handicap Secretary's decision to change their handicaps for today's round. He felt, with some justification, that the forward placing of a large number of the men's tees had been too advantageous, especially for a Medal round. So, instead of receiving our usual slope calculations for the yellow tees, our gross scores were adjusted to the handicaps for the blue tee positions. A nasty surprise to find you'd just lost 4 shots.

The first of this year's Bill Williams Away Day trophy competitions is scheduled for next Wednesday (14th) at Font del Llop. The captain was rather disappointed to find a number of cancellations on the notice-board list, but changes in travel dates and family commitments seem to have taken their toll. Hopefully future Away Days will be back to last year's numbers - Bill's generosity with this continued sponsorship deserves our fullest support.
