2018: Golf Poniente - Bill Williams Away Day Trophy (29.8.)

Venue: Villaitana Poniente Course, 29 August 2018

For our Bill Williams Away Day Trophy, we went today to Villaitana Golf to play on their Poniente Course which is the shorter of the two courses consisting only of par 3 and 4’s.  We were very happy to use buggies rather than walk, not only because of the hot weather but also as the course, although fairly short, is quite mountainous and we were able to enjoy the beautiful views from the comfort of the buggies.
We had an attendance of 25 members and one guest playing Individual Stableford.  This was the first occasion when the booking through the Master Scoreboard was implemented and the flights were drawn randomly by the Computer.  To the delight of the Captain, this worked out very well as it only required a few little “tweaks” to accommodate guests etc. and will in future reduce her workload prior to the competitions.
Because Poniente has a par rating of 62, our playing handicaps were reduced considerably which, looking at the results, were well justified. There were some excellent scores being posted as can be seen below.  This course required a good short game and Jan, today’s winner, demonstrated this with great success.  Congratulations to Jan and also to Helmut, Nino, Angel and Graham for very good results.

Summarizing the results:
Wendy Wakely, our one guest, duly won the guest prize.

Nearest the pin:
Hole 4                        Helmut Treiber
Hole 8                        Jean-Louis Moucheboeuf
Hole 11                      Stan Tarabula
Hole 14                      Nino Andres Aloras

Good news for our sponsor Bob Crow. There were no birdie prizes awarded today because of the large number of par 3’s which recorded a total of 12 twos.

The main competition results were:
5th place with 36 points off 15 hcp – Graham Sutton
4th place with 36 points off 18 hcp – Angel Centenera, with a better back 9
3rd place with 37 points off 4 hcp – Nino Andres Aloras
2nd place with 39 points off 11 hcp – Helmut Treiber
1st place with 40 off 9 hcp – Jan Boultbee
