Venue: Bonalba
Golf & Spa, 15th February 2017
Today’s competition was Individual Stableford which
also qualified for the Campbell Lamont League.
Again, we had a full house of 39 members and 1 guest, all teeing off
from Tee 1 which meant that the early groups had a somewhat long wait until
prize giving. It was noticed that some
members who went out early used the waiting time to practice their chipping and
putting whilst others enjoyed the nice weather on the terrace of the Club House
sipping a glass or two of Cava.
Next week the early players will have the chance of
getting professional chipping and putting coaching from Juan-Alberto. This will
be the first of the six coaching lessons as announced at our recent AGM.Our Captain had decided to be generous by allocating two additional prizes which consisted of the longest putt on holes 5 and 3. It seems that Gordon wanted to promote the “risk and reward” factor as these greens are extremely challenging . He obviously took this factor to heart as he himself sank the longest putt on hole 13. Peter again demonstrated his good putting skills which he previously had shown by being joint winner at the putting competition on Captain’s Drive-in, and sank the longest putt on hole 5. Well done to both!
The other special prize was a bottle of Champagne generously donated by Jean-Jacques. He felt he had to make good his recent mistake on hole 8. With that extra motivation in mind, yours truly made a special effort and was delighted to take the prize.
For many players today turned out to be a good golfing day with two thirds of all players scoring 30+ points and one third scoring 34+. You needed to score 36 points or better to make the top 5 places. Congratulations and very well played to all the winners!
