2021: A Summary of 8th, 15th and 22nd December

These are the results for the last three Wednesdays.  Unfortunately, I had a very sore eye and found it very difficult to look at computer screens and to do any writing.  Needless to say that there was no golf for me either.

On Wednesday, 15 December we played a Texas Scramble.  There had been a Christmas lunch arranged after golf, but the Captain decided that the health risk, due to the increasing numbers of new Covid cases, was too great and regrettably had to cancel our get-together.

On Wednesday, 8^th December we had our Away Day at Alenda.  We were really looking forward to playing this ever popular course.  However, the weather gods were not kind to us, to say the least.  Gale force winds did spoil our rounds but we bravely soldiered on.  The results speak for themselves.

This Wednesday we played our usual Individual Stableford. We had a depleted field today, with only 22 players competing.  Therefore, the prizes awarded were reduced to first and second place in both Divisions.

Many congratulations to the winners, especially to Edi Rogers and our Captain Brian Hines for both scoring an excellent 40 points.

 

It was good to see Ray Prudhoe back in Spain, after nearly two years absence, due to Corona.

2021: Away Day Font del Llop (27.10.)

This Wednesday we went to Font del Llop on one of the Away Days sponsored by Bill Williams.  As Away Days are always popular, we had a good turn-out of 28 members and 4 guests.  We played the normal Individual Stapleford.

Font del Llop has 5 par 3’s.  So there was the extra prize for nearest to the pin. There was no prize giving today.  Today’s prizes will be presented next Wednesday.

 

It was interesting to see that hole 9 has been redesigned around the green.  The barranca in front of the green has been removed, making it a slightly more friendly approach to the green, but it still remains the hardest hole of the course.

 

The course was in very good condition, especially also the greens. This may have helped to achieve the many excellent scores.  Congratulations to everyone on the winners’ board, and especially to Brian and Maurice, the winners of Division 1 and 2.

This Wednesday’s competition was Individual Stableford which qualified for all Society competitions and also for the Worldwide Handicap System.

We had a good turn-out of 28 members and 1 guest.

 

It seems to be the norm at the moment that you need to score around 40 points to be on the winners’ list.  The best score today came from Doris, closely followed by Johnny G and Helmut.  Even if I say so myself, well played Doris, and, of course, John, Helmut, Michael, John Brook and Heidi.

 

Before we come to the summary of today’s results, here is the latest stand of the ongoing Society competitions, the full results of which can be found on Master Scoreboard.  These competitions will finish in January 2022.

Eclectics:  There are only 3 strokes between the first 6, Richard, Michael, Eddy F, Tony, Helmut and Robert.

Consistency Chart Div. 1:  Michael has a good lead, but there is still a chance for Eddy F and Richard.

Consistency Chart Div. 2 :  Pascale is in the lead, closely followed by Doris and Chris.

Ladies Championship:  Pascale is in the lead, closely followed by Doris and Greta.

Stan’s Autumn Champagne Challenge:  There is one more month to go.  At present, in Div.1, Michael is in the lead, followed by Eddy F and Richard.  In Div. 2, Doris is in the lead, followed by Jean-Paul.

We had a good turn-out of 32 players, which included 5 guests.

 

The course is getting busy again with many visitors and buggies are in great demand.

Therefore, please note all members who require a buggy, cannot book individual but now need to share.  Our Captain is trying his best to accommodate everyone who needs a buggy.

 

There were some magnificent results again, way above par, in both Divisions.  The best overall result came from Peter, scoring 42 points.

This Wednesday’s competition was Individual Stableford which qualified for all Society competitions and for Stan Tarabula’s Champagne Challenge.

 

We had a good turn-out of 27 members and were delighted to welcome back John and Anne Brook, after their enforced long absence, due to the Corona restrictions.

 

The two outstanding results today came from Michael who scored a very good 40 points  and from Helmut who, like last week, came in with 41 points, but this time, with a one shot handicap reduction.

In Division 2, our newest member, Trish Kelleher, is making her mark, being runner-up twice.  Keep going Trish, you will get there soon!

This Wednesday there were 25 players taking part in the Individual Stableford competition. 

The outstanding rounds today came from Division 1.  Incredibly, Tony, Robert and Stan all scored 41 points and Brian Hines, who had been moved to Division 1 due to his consistent good play, was not far behind with 39 points.  Tony beat Robert and Stan on the back 9 with an outstanding score of 24 points.

Chris is also in good form and claimed the top place again in Division 2.  

Congratulations to all of them.

Today we had a team game of three best Stableford scores on each hole.  Par was 108 points. The winning team came very close to it and were awarded the wine.

 

There were also prizes for the best two individual scores in both Divisions.  They also were well deserved as all the scores were above par.

Today there were 25 players taking part in the Individual Stableford competition.  The outstanding round came from Richard. Many congratulations – to score 42 points off 9 hcp is no mean feat.

 

This was the last of the Bonalba 2^nd Phase WHS Series until September. This Series runs parallel with our own competition and qualifies for the Spanish Federation WWH, which means that the CBGS competitions have to be based on individual scores and cannot be certain team games.  So, watch out for our Captain to arrange some fun team games during August.

Today we played Individual Stableford with 19 members and no guests.

 

The overall scoring was excellent, despite the very hot weather conditions.  Four players achieved par and better, which, out of a total of 19, is good scoring.  The top results were achieved in Division 2.  Peter and Luc both had 40 points, with Peter coming out top on the back 9.  Congratulations to everyone on the winners’ board.

Also note Keith, our remarkable nonagenarian, who consistently is in the frame with 32+ points.

Today we had a team game of three best Stableford scores on each hole.  Par was 108 points.  The winning team came close to it, but surprisingly no team made par.  Stan was doing a good job as ghost for both teams on the podium.

 

The Captain obviously felt generous and also awarded prizes for Individual best scores in Divisions 1 and 2.  Here the outstanding score came from Pascale with 39 points.

Today’s game was Individual Stableford with 25 members competing.  

There were some excellent results, especially in Division 1.  Well played everyone!

We were delighted to welcome a new member, Lieve Heyens, the wife of Robert who has been a member for a couple of years.  We hope  she will have an enjoyable time playing golf in our Society.

 

After prize giving, we asked Louis Mendez, the Manager of Bonalba Golf, to join us to present a small farewell gift to him.  Louis is leaving Bonalba Golf to join the Spanish Golf Federation.  We wish him all the very best in his new position.
