2025: Away Trip La Sella Golf Resort (10-12 November)

Venue:  La Sella Golf Resort

 

After the initial trip to La Sella in September had to be cancelled because of extreme rain, we arrived at La Sella to lovely sunny weather.

 

La Sella has three 9-hole courses, which gave us a good variation for our three rounds of golf.

 

On the first day we played Individual Stableford.  The winners were

3^rd place Jean-Jaques Bourrier with 29 points,

2^nd place Derek Cruickshank with 29 points,

1^st place Jean-Claude Martinez with 31 points.

 

On the second day we had a Texas Scramble.  The winners were

2^nd place Richard Davis, Jean-Jacques Bourrier with 40 points

1^st place Derek and Karen Cruickshank, Klaudia Martinez, Doris Shearman-Earp with 44 points.

 

On the third day we had another Individual Stableford, with a different variation of courses. The winners were

Derek Cruickshank, Richard Davis and Jim Hurley, all with 31 points

 

The best combined Stableford scores were 

2^nd place Jean-Jacque Bourrier with 58 points

1^st place Derek Cruickshank with 60 points

 

A big thank you goes to our Captain Karen, together with her two helpers Derek and Richard for their hard work and great efforts to make this a most enjoyable and memorable trip.  We all had a great time on and off the golf course.

2023: Away Trip Valle del Este (29.-31.5.)

We had to wait for 3 years, but this year we finally were able to arrange our much loved Annual Away Trip which took place from 29 to 31 May.  

 

Our destination was Valle del Este where we played the first and third round and Aguilon Golf Course on day 2.  

 

The week before, Spain experienced a lot of rain and we were worried that our trip would be “washed out”, but as they say “when angels travel…..” became true and, although there were threatening black clouds around us, we were very lucky as the weather turned out to be ideal for golf, nice temperatures, quite sunny, no wind and no rain.

 

We started with 16 players, but unfortunately Brian and Wendy Wakely’s trip ended on day one.  Their buggy turned over and Brian’s injuries meant that he could not continue.  However, the good news was that both of them had escaped without broken bones.

 

Many thanks to the sponsors of wine, Stan and Christiane, Jean-Paul and Pascale and the CBGS.  And a big thanks to Stan for organising the competitions, the buggies and the prize giving each evening, making it a very enjoyable and memorable trip for us all.

Away Trip 2019

This year our Annual Away Trip took us to the Mar Menor.  We were 23 golfers and 5 non-golfers.  We stayed at the Hotel Costa Narejos in Los Alcázares and played at La Roda and La Romero. 

On day 1 at La Roda we played a team game counting the best three Stableford scores on each hole.  This gave us the chance to get to know the course, ready for day 3 when we would play Individual Stableford.  The winning team was Tony Dewavrin, Pascal Guy, Jean-Paul Leroux and Gordon Burton.

On day 2 it was the ever popular La Romero Golf Course which had also been the destination of some of our Away Days in the past.  Here we played one of the two Individual Stableford rounds.  The main prizes on this day went to Jean-Paul , best man with 39 points and Pascal Guy, second with 35 points.  The best two Ladies were Marie-Jo and Jan, both with 36 points.

Day 3 saw us back at La Roda for the second round of Individual Stableford.  Best man was Tony with 36 points and Ray, second with 34 points.  Best Lady was again Marie-Jo with 34 points and Jan coming second with 33 points.

Among many other prizes, there were also prizes for the two best overall man and lady players of Day 2 and 3.   As Ray, Tony, Marie-Jo and Jan were the winners and runners up of this category and also in the prizes of  the individual competition on Day 3, it was decided to award prizes for 3^rd and 4^th place  on day 3 at La Roda.  Of the men, Eric Pages came 3^rd with 33 points and Pierre was 4^th with 32 points.  Third best lady was Doris with 27 points and Heidi came 4^th with 26 points.

We all had a great time enjoying each others company, on and off the golf course.  Everybody enjoyed playing on these two courses, the hotel accommodation was good and the weather also played its part to make it a very successful trip.  See also the photos in the “Gallery”.

2018: Away Trip Photos (11.-14.5.)

2016: Away Trip Mar Menor (10.-12.5.)

Venue: Hotel Intercontinental, Mar Menor Golf Resort,

10^th – 12^th May 2016

This year our annual Away Trip took us to the Mar Menor.  We stayed at the Hotel InterContinental at the Mar Menor Golf Resort & Spa, a first-class hotel with lots of amenities for the non-golfers and the Mar Menor Golf Course attached to the hotel plus some other courses nearby.  The trip was fully booked with 36 players and 12 non-golfers which meant that unfortunately some of the players on the waiting list could not be accommodated.

Each day we played Individual Stableford with daily prizes and accumulative prizes at the end of the tour.  On the second day, in addition to the individual competition, we had also a team game and the gamblers among us had a chance to bet on the winning team.

On the first day we played the Mar Menor course which suited especially those players who had arrived the day before and could enjoy a leisurely breakfast before venturing out onto the course.  The second day saw us at the nearby El Valle and on the third day, on the way home, we stopped at the Hacienda Riquelme Golf course for our final game and final prize giving.

There were some very good daily results with

Bob Crow winning on day 1 with 36 points,
Angel Centenera winning on day 2 with 39 points, after, according to his own statement, very little sleep the night before,
and Sandra Woodfine winning on day 3 with 40 points.

The overall winners for the three days, were two formidable ladies, with Pascale Leroux coming second scoring a total of 99 points and our very own Captain Jan Boultbee winning with a total score of 102 points.

The Captain also continued with her special “secret” prizes of a bag of golf balls and the recipients can be spotted in the picture gallery of the trip. So we are left wondering ….

A great big thank you goes to our Captain Jan and her helpers, especially also to her Vice-Captain Gordon, for the superb organisation on and off the golf course. We all had a fantastic time, the hotel was very good, the food in the two different hotel restaurants was delicious and we struggled to eat it all.  So sum it up, another Away Trip which was extremely enjoyable for both the golfers and “the Ladies who lunched”.

 

AWAY TRIP 2015

This year’s Away Trip from 10^th to 12^th May took us to Aguilas in Almeria. We stayed at the Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel, which had also been our base during the away trip 3 years ago, as it is a pleasant hotel and well situated for the daily trips to the various golf courses.  This time there were 40 of us, 32 players and 8 non-players.

Some of us took the opportunity to go a day earlier and play the Desert Spring golf course. Loved by some and hated by others. The desert-like conditions are not to everyone’s liking as you might find yourself getting stung by cacti whilst looking for your ball.  However, the landscape is very beautiful.

On the first day of the official trip we played at Aguilón Golf, quite a narrow and hilly course with beautiful scenery. The second day took us to Lorca Golf. Again a fairly short course with lots of ravines and  again beautiful scenery.  The third day, on our way back home, we stopped to play at La Serena Golf near the Mar Menor.  Our Ex-Captain Graham who chose this course as our main stay last year and speaking from last year’s experience, suggested in order to play this course, we should all be supplied with life jackets, as there was ample opportunity to fall into the water as nearly every hole has a water hazard.

On that last day, after golf, we gathered at La Serena Club Restaurant for a delicious meal and the final presentation of prizes and reflecting on another very enjoyable and well organised golf trip.  Our thanks go to our Captain Angel Centenera who in turn wants to give thanks to all his helpers, and especially to Stan Tarabula and to his Vice-Captain Jan Boultbee.
