2022: Indiv. Stableford (18.5.)

This Wednesday the 18th we had 30 members playing a Qualifying Stableford game. And it seems that the summer started with some very warm days. Using sun blocker these days is a smart thing to do.

The results were as follows:

Division 2: 

Second place: Ignace with 35 points from a hcp of 24

First place: Elwyn with 37 points from a hcp of 25

Division 1: 

Second place: Marcel B with 38 points from a hcp of 15

First place: John G with 40 points from a hcp of 15

Nearest to the Pin: Marcel B on hole 4 and 11 - Hole 8 Mo and a magnificent neary from John Rigby on hole 14!

There were 3 two balls recorded from John G, Ignace B and Marcel B

Next Wednesday 25th we have a team game called Rainbow tee off (further explanation in this blog Monday noon)

2021: Monthly Medal (1.12.)

Today we played our December Medal competition which was a qualifier for all Society competitions and also for the Worldwide Handicap.

 

We had a fairly low turn-out of 20 members which meant that only two prizes per Division were awarded, to the detriment of third places Michael and Doris.  The wine went to Stan and Helmut of Division 1 and to1.12.Pascale and Jan of Division 2.  Congratulations to all and a special mention to the two “girls” who were the only ones to score under par.

 

Next week we are looking forward to our Away-Day which is taking us to popular Alenda Golf.

2021: Monthly Medal (3.11.)

Today we played our November Medal competition.  We had 25 members competing for the Medal and one guest.  The guest player was Ignace Boersman, who has applied for membership of our Society.

Today’s competition qualified for all Society competitions and also for the Worldwide Handicap.

 

Many congratulations to today’s winners, John Garnett in Division 1 and Maurice Buol in Division 2.  John and Maurice were the only players who scored par or better.

 

Today there was one two which did not happen on any of the par 3’s, but on the par 4 hole 16.  We congratulate Helmut Treiber, who scored the EAGLE. 

 

We are looking forward to next week’s combined Captains/Presidents Day.  We decided that, for this year, we would combine the two competitions to minimize the Coronavirus risk.  The prize giving will be during the lunch at the Club after the competition.

Today we played our September Medal competition.  We had 21 members competing for the Medal and one guest. This competition qualified for all Society competitions and also for the Worldwide Handicap.

The weather forecast had predicted thunderstorms, but we were lucky with the weather, so much so, as we only had 15 minutes or so of rain, when around us and other parts of Spain had suffered some very bad storms.

The outstanding score today came again from our Captain Brian Hines whose short game and especially his putting is, what can only be described as awesome.

 

Today there was also the prize presentation of the Champagne Challenge Summer Trophy for the best consistent player for June to August, sponsored by Stan and Christiane Tarabula.

Today we were playing our Monthly Medal competition.  There were only 19 players in total, so the chance of winning was good, especially in the 2^nd Division, where only 7 players competed.  Having said that, our Captain had an excellent round and came top, irrespective of the Divisions.  Well played, Brian, and also congratulations to everyone else on the winners’ board.

This Wednesday we played our Monthly Medal.  The attendance was quite low with 18 cards being processed, 11 in Division 1 and 7 in Division 2.

The low attendance merited only two prizes in each Division, instead of the usual three.

Special congratulations to Richard, the only player under par.

 

We were lucky with the weather as temperatures had dropped back to around max.30 degrees from the high 30’s the previous day.

 

At prize giving, John Garnett treated us to a glass of bubbly to celebrate his recent birthday. We wish him many more happy years of playing golf.  He certainly was the king of the par three’s today.

Today we had 21 members competing for the June Medal.  We also welcomed 3 guests from France and Belgium.

There should have been a prize presentation today, but it had to be postponed to next week as “the man in charge of the wine bottles” was not able to deliver them in time.

 

However, one presentation took place today.  It was the Primavera Champagne Challenge sponsored by Stan and Christiane Tarabula for best consistency over the months of March, April and May.  Many congratulations to the winners Pascale and Graham.

The Verano Challenge will cover the months June to August.

Today 23 members participated in our Monthly Medal competition.  We were pleased to welcome back our previous member Maurice Buol after a period of absence.

Again, there were some excellent scores posted, lead by an extraordinary result from Santi.  His score of net 62 must be the best score ever achieved by a member of our Society. We applaud his fantastic round of golf.

 

We are still not back to prize presentations after the competition as the golf club terrace is only partially open, but some of us stayed behind today and were treated by Stan Tarabula, our new League Captain, to cava and tapas to celebrate the promotion of our Team to the first Division, having won their last match of the 20/21 season last week at La Galliana.  Thank you, Stan and good luck to the Team for the 21/22 season which will start in September.

Will the Masters at Augusta ever look like that again?

This Wednesday, being the first of the month, we played the Monthly Medal competition which also counted for the Bonalba Golf WHS Series 2021.  To avoid confusion, we have now done away with the CBGS scorecard and are just using the scorecard issued by Bonalba Golf.  

The playing handicap shown on this scorecard is 95% of your full handicap.  Therefore, it differs from the handicap shown on the tee-time grid on our blog.  It is important that your gross strokes are entered correctly as the computer will work out automatically your Stableford points.

 

We had 23 players competing.  Looking at the results, the leaders in Division 2 had the edge over Division 1. Congratulations to the winners.

Today was the start of Brian’s Captainship for 2021.  We wish him well and hope that, as the year progresses, life will return to some normality again and his task of organising our golf will get easier.  It is a shame that we could not hold our normally Captain’s Drive-in celebration.  Good luck for 2021, Brian!

 

The first competition on Brian’s calendar was the March Monthly Medal.  We had 26 players enjoying their golf in very pleasant weather conditions.  There were some amazing results, considering the long break we had of playing golf. Many congratulations to all the winners of both Divisions.

On Wednesday, 6^th January, we had our Monthly Medal competition.  A diminished field of 19 members and 1 guest took part. The weather forecast for Spain on this Three Kings Day was for snow and ice in many parts of the country.  There was no snow here, but it was pretty cold first thing.  Luckily, later on temperatures rose which allowed us to take off some layers of clothing and swing more freely.

Congratulations to Brian Hines who continued his good form from last week and also won the January Medal.
