2017: Monthly Medal (6.12.)

Today's top places in the Medal

What a pleasure it was, especially after last week's rain, to enjoy this week's competition in fine weather, and then to sit on a sunlit terrace, drink in hand, awaiting the announcement of the results.

In the end, 32 members were challenging for this month's medal, and it is to their credit that the top 6 places were separated by only 4 net points. Indeed, almost half the field had net scores in the 70s.

Playing alongside the members were three guests competing for the 'guest bottle ' on their Stableford scores. It was very fitting that the prize was won by a guest who was later welcomed by the committee into membership of the club - the name: Erik Paesmans. Welcome, and very well done today.

Jan and John's Hidden Holes Prize went to Brain Wakely for his excellent score of 19 points on the chosen holes. Terrific.

The full list of prize winners is shown below. Kate Hurley's recent form meant that it came as no surprise to see her doing well again in this round. Her 6th place with 74 points earned her a bottle since one of the other winners was not present at the presentation. She was beaten by a recently returned Bob Crow only narrowly on the back 9. Places 2, 3 and 4 (Nino, James and Edi Rogers) all came in with net scores of 71 and had to be separated on back 9 and back 6 scoring.

Pipping them at the post was a man who already had much to celebrate this week.  A long-standing member and officer of the club, he revealed on receiving his prize that he could not remember the last time he had won the medal. How fitting, then, that Stan was today's winner with his fine score of 70 net points: fitting because he and his lovely wife celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary earlier in the week.  I'm sure Stan would agree that Christiane has been a wonderful support over these many years - Félicitations, many congratulations!  - and I will not put the rest into French because, amusingly, 'supporter' means 'to put up with' 😀.
