THE PINKS VERSUS THE BLUES
IT'S THE PINKS - AGAIN! |
Greta, who is looking after our team games this year, decided to repeat what is fast becoming an annual event - a well-received format which pits half of our members against the other half, 18 in pink shirts and 18 in blue, 2 pinks versus 2 blues in each flight. Handicap totals were carefully calculated and shared between the two sides. Further, as some may not have realised, family members were also separated, thereby ensuring that no family got two prizes!
It was a gorgeous day on which to be playing golf, the course looking greener than in recent early Junes, but with the greens themselves still a tad slow after last week’s sanding. Of the 18 pairings, the top third achieved creditable combined scores of 60 or more Stableford points - but the outstanding performance was by the top pairing of Jean Paul Leroux and Brian Wakely who stole the show with 72 points. And this was to be of great significance to the final result. Other pairs with good scores of 60 or more were Jan Boultbee and John Webber, Graham Sutton and Jim Hurley, John Garnett and Eddie Fagg, and Greta Biersteker and Bill Williams.
Greta decided to tease us by announcing the results flight by flight, which showed the blues had won more flights. However, it was to be the total number of Stableford points by each side which finally counted, and that was Pinks 525, Blues 519. A competitive but friendly competition, then, which left the Pinks in the pink, and the others feeling blue.
Today the president was also pleased to announce that two new members had been accepted by the committee: Jean Charles Colini and Dave Tomlins : a warm welcome was extended to them both.
