Doris,
Thanks for keeping us all in the loop during these
awful times of lockdown.
We were in Seville when the lockdown in Spain was
announced and luckily we
had an emergency flight home to Gatwick on Tuesday
17th March.
We have been on lockdown since Monday 23rd March
and have been
self-isolating since. We are fairly fortunate here
as we live out in the
countryside and so rarely see many folk anyway. You
have my greatest
sympathy for the situation in Spain and hopefully things
will start to
improve in the very near future.
I believe the weather in Spain has not been so good
as of late.
You are probably aware that we had almost 7 months
of continuous rain in
Wales prior to this spell of settled sunny weather.
Attached is a picture of
my back garden in the glorious sunshine,
resplendent with Welsh Daffodils,
which we have had for the past 2 weeks.
We must have been bad boys in Wales as now that the
weather has improved
whereby we can get outdoors to do some gardening or
play golf, we are told
to stay indoors and the whilst the course has been
drying up nicely, it is
closed!
All the pubs, clubs and restaurants are closed and
so I have taken the
opportunity to reduce my alcohol intake (boring I
know) to try and shed a
few kilos. A tough ask I know but it’s now or never
whilst the event
dictates.
The wife's business has been told to close and I am
getting slightly
concerned that she is enjoying this premature
enforced retirement. Any
suggestions would be greatly received particularly
as I can't escape to the
pub or the golf course and the jobs keep stacking
up!
I look forward to seeing you all at the CBGS as
soon as permissible.
Keep safe and best regards to all,
Dave

Hello Doris, Brian
We are of course on Bonalba.
Everything has been canceled, our return to Paris and other meetings planned. We are fine. I write my 6th book eight hours a day. Gymnastics, indoor golf practice, reading and Netflix.
Christiane resumed her drawings, crosswords, her English lessons and readings.
In the evening a good whiskey…
Faced with such a danger, golf has become secondary

From Keith a Poem
Hi everyone.
Hope you are well and
keeping safe
I looked in the mirror and what
did I see?
A ‘grotty old fellow surely,
not me
So I looked once again really up
close
He seemed so untidy and very
morose
He’d certainly not shaven it
really was weird
This guy in the mirror he now had
a beard
Its colour was poor with lots of
dark grey
Was that really me I was filled
with dismay
I’d said at the start of this
epidemic
That I’m sure that the whole
thing is really polemic
I’ll shave when it’s over and it
can’t be a sin
With a PM like Boris I’m certain
we’ll win
Now time has gone by it really is
bad
The numbers are growing it really
is sad
The beard’s had it’s day it‘s had
a long run
The reason I grew it is no longer
fun
So I’ll soap up my face and with
a small tear
See if the old me will now
reappear
It passed some time I hope you
like it
Keep Well and Safe

From Jim and Kate Hurley
Dear Doris
Jim and myself were delighted to hear from you and your
excellent suggestion of setting up ‘A Page’ where we can keep up to date with each
other’s News.
Having arrived in Spain on March 9th, we decided
to leave a week later when the ‘Isolation Rules’ kicked in….no golf, walking
etc.
We were lucky to get a flight on March 19th. It
was eerie at Alicante Airport where there were more Guardia Civil than
passengers. Dublin Airport was quiet also
and on arrival we were instructed to ‘Self Isolate ‘ for 14 days..(not to leave
our house for any reason whatsoever). A
week after getting home, they again brought in new regulations where ‘Over
70’s’ cannot leave their homes for any reason for foreseeable future, to
include Supermarkets and Pharmacies…so even more strict than Spain.
Fortunately our children live close by and can leave our
shopping at our hall door, always maintaining ‘the 2 metres distancing
regulations! The weather here has been
wonderful, sunny every day. We have been
busy gardening and decorating….great!
As a ‘by the way’…we have 137 deaths here up to
yesterday. Not too bad, but still going
uphill. It is hoped in 2 weeks they will start to reduce.
Referring to our missed golf sponsorship for St Patricks Day
and to being married 50 years in January, we had hoped to share a glass of
bubbles with you all on St Patrick’s Day. Can we assure you all that the prizes
are safe in Coveta and we look forward to planning with the help of Doris,
Graham and the Committee….’AN IRISH DAY’ before the end of the year at
Bonalba. We have no doubt that the
scoring will be good, the weather terrific and the Course in great condition
after months of rest.
Keep as Safe, Fit and as Cheerful as we can…..
Kate and Jim Hurley.
