2014: Texas Scramble (10.12.)

Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 10 December 2014

Today was Christmas Present Day.  Each player had to bring a present to the value of €10 and the winning team had first choice to take a present, followed by the next best team in order of placings.  We had 35 members and 1 guest competing and we all enjoyed a relaxing round of Texas Scramble.  Well done to Clive who had an Eagle on hole 6.  Richard was the king of the par 3’s today, coming nearest to the pin on three occasions and consequently needed a carrier bag for the bottles of wine he received as prizes.

After the golf, we sat down to a good lunch at the Bonalba Club restaurant and enjoyed the pre-Christmas seson.

2014: Team Game - Yellow Ball (29.10.)

 Venue: Bonalba Golf & Spa, 29 October 2014

Today’s competition was a team game. 34 members and guests took part in chasing the “yellow ball”.  Each team member in succesion was playing the “yellow ball” which awarded double Stableford points.  The three best scores on each hole counted but the yellow ball had to be included in the count even if no points were scored. The par of the competition was 144 and the winning team came very close to it with a magnificent 142 points and 11 points ahead of the second place. The Captain and his team obviously did not feel the pressure when addressing the yellow ball unlike some of us!

It is good to see Edi in the prizes and managing to play so well so soon after his recent life threatening operation.

There was no guest prize today as our guests played as part of the teams and as can be seen from the results did well for their teams.

2014: Team Game - Best three scores (27.8.)

Venue : Bonalba Golf &Spa, Wednesday, 27 August 2014

Having experienced the hottest day of the year yesterday, with temperatures on the course rising to near 40 degrees, 24 members and 4 guests turned up this morning ready to play a team game.  Luc, our Vice-Captain, in charge this week, decided to play for the three best scores on each hole and as an addition there was also a special sponsorship for the best individual Stableford score, ladies and men.

The guests played as part of the team rather than for an individual guest prize and we are delighted that one of our guests today, Luc Verhaegen and his wife  Marleen, have now joined the Society as full members.

Angel Centenera, who is in charge of ordering the Society shirts, has now distributed most of the shirts to the members as can be seen from the photo call after the prize giving. What a fine bunch !

2014: Texas Scramble (13.8.)

Venue : Bonalba Golf &Spa, Wednesday, 13 August 2014

As the weather forecast was for one of the hottest days of the year, we were happy to hear that our Captain had decided to play a team game.  20 members had put their names down to play Texas Scramble.  The one restriction was that each player had to make four drives. The winning team came in with an exceptionally good score, five birdies and 13 pars.  A great team effort and a wise decision to let Pascale putt first as she sank some amazing putts.

It was good to see Guy who had come over from France and looking well after his recent illness.  He and his son were playing as guests today joining Luc, another guest from France.  Guy’s son William won the guest prize with 35 Stableford points.

We were also very happy to welcome Edi at the prize giving.  He is recovering very well indeed from his recent operation and hopes to be able to start playing golf again in about September/October.

2014: Team Game Four Ball Better Ball (19.3.)

Venue : Bonalba Golf & Spa, Wednesday, 19 March 2014.

This week our Captain arranged a team game, four ball better ball, a nice change from the individual competitions.  And to top it all, the weather had improved from the last two Wednesdays, so all in all a very enjoyable round of golf. It was interesting to see that the two players who achieved birdies on the par 3’s were were not the ones who were nearest to the pins.

We had 5 guests playing with us today. However, they did not play for the normal guest prize but took part in the team competition instead.

2014: Captain's Drive-in (5.2.)

Venue : Bonalba Golf &Spa, Wednesday, 5 February 2014.

Today we had the Drive-in of our newly elected Captain, Graham Sutton. We all had at bet as to where his drive was going to land. Lucky Elwyn Price guessed correctly that it would land a good distance in the rough left of the fairway and won the jackpot. We then proceeded to play the competition. To celebrate the occasion, our new Captain had decided to give out more than the usual amount of prizes.  There were prizes for the team event which was the three best results on each hole. There were also prizes for the best individual Stableford results for women and men, longest drive men and women and the usual nearest to pins.
It had been an excellent turn-out and we all thoroughly enjoyed the game, especially as we were spurned on by an excellent half-way house.  Many thanks to Hazel, Rose, Karine and Christiane for looking after our well-being by providing us with delicous food and drinks.  It was very much appreciated.
After the prize giving, the members and guests sat down to a very enjoyable lunch at the Bonalba Golf Club restaurant..  All in all a wonderful day.  Thank you Graham and your helpers for organising it and we wish you all the best for your year of Captaincy!

Today was our last game of golf before Christmas which meant that apart from the usual prizes, we all brought along a present . We played a Texas Scramble and the winning team had first choice of the presents.
