2013: Semi-final Doubles Matchplay and Texas Scramble

Venue : Bonalba Golf &Spa, Wednesday, 25 September 2013.

Today the second semi-final of the Doubles Matchplay competition was played: Richard Davis and David Davies against Jeff Murten and Keith Preston.  It was a close match with Richard putting the pressure on to their opponents by getting two “nearest the pins” and getting a birdie on one of them.  Jeff and Keith fought hard  with Jeff replying with his own birdie on one of the par three’s but in the end Richard and David won 2 and 1.  They are now up against Angel Centenera and Helmut Treiber in the final.  Good luck to both pairs!  The rest of us played Texas Scramble, this time in teams of three players.  It put slightly more pressure on everyone as we all had to do five drives compared to the usual four drives.

There were no guests playing with us today.

Nearest the pins :
Hole 4            Richard Davis
Hole 8            Sally Rippingale
Hole 11          Angel Centenera
Hole 14          Richard Davis

There was a glut of twos today: five in all. They were achieved by Richard Davis, Jeff Murten, Sally Riggingale and two twos from Angel Centenera.  They all receive the customary golf ball, sponsored by Bob Crow.  At this rate, we will need a fresh supply of balls very soon. Sorry Bob!

The Texas Scramble competition results were as follows:
3rd place with 79 gross and 69 net, Angel Centenera, Rip Rippingale, Gordon Burton
2nd place with 77 gross and 67.9 net, Luc Sienaert, Chris van Bemmelen, Les Wilkinson
1st place with 77 gross and 67.5 net, Edi Rogers, Neville Woodfine, Doris Shearman-Earp
