It turned out to be quite an unusual finish to our competition today with all top 5 places achieving exactly the same score, and therefore having to be separated only on countback. The total achieved by all these players was 33 Stableford points. The final placings can be seen below. You will see that congratulations need to go our eventual winner, Greta Biersteker, playing off her handicap of 8 at Bonalba. Moreover, Chris van Bemmelen's second place place made it a Dutch 1 and 2 today. Although it was no surprise to see another low handicapper, Bob Crow, once again in the prizes, we were delighted to see Pascale Leroux, and Norman Emerson (one of our longest-standing members) also on the podium. And among the nearest to the pins you will see Gay Brooks, recently returned from the UK, as well as one of our newest members, David Payne. So bottles of wine for them, and for Michael and Chris too. Dan, Ricky Nelson's son, secured the guest prize with his 27 points.
Our vice-captain, Gordon, has introduced a fun sponsored item for the first time this month. It was awarded for the best total score on four 'hidden holes' (i.e. no one knew beforehand which holes would count). It was nice to see Bill Williams coming close to the prize, but Jan Boultbee with a total of 9 points and a better overall score took the honours. Well done, Captain.
Looking ahead to next week, we must thank Specsavers for agreeing to sponsor our winner. Some jokers in the club thought they should offer something to the highest loser!
A study of the 36 cards would show that the scores on the inward nine, where quite a few of the holes benefitted from a back wind, were much better than the outward half. The rather cold early start also did not seem to help scoring on the first few holes of the front nine! We look forward to warmer starts soon.
